My experience and background put me in a great position to make your insurance company keep their promise to you. Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit more about my background.
I am a Florida native originally from Jacksonville Beach. I received my Undergraduate and Law Degrees from the University of Florida. I have been a member of the Florida Bar Association since 2008. I was admitted to the Texas Bar in 2024. My path to becoming Your Insurance Claim Lawyer, is paved with a variety of experiences that come together to make me very effective at resolving denied and underpaid insurance claims.
During law school, I was fortunate to work as a law clerk for a very experienced group of board- certified civil trial attorneys at Fisher, Butts, Sechrest & Warner, P.A.. In that role, I had the opportunity to see first-hand how a lawyer, working diligently on behalf of their client, could make all the difference to a client in need. Upon graduating and passing the Bar, I was retained by that firm as an associate attorney. While there, I focused primarily on cases related to real estate misrepresentation, building construction, and property damage claims. I will be forever grateful that the partners in that first firm took great interest in making me a better lawyer. That experience set a solid foundation on which I could build my future practice.
In 2011, I was recruited to join the Florida College System Risk Management Consortium, as an Enterprise Risk Manager. In that role, I was directly involved in the management of the self-funded property insurance risk pool for the Florida State College System. I worked side-by-side with seasoned and experienced insurance examiners and adjusters in handling property damage claims for the various college members. The claims I reviewed included hurricane damage, flood damage, fire damage, theft and vandalism. During my time with the Florida College System, I added to my knowledge base by studying for, and acquiring, a 220 General Lines Insurance Agent License with the State of Florida. To succeed, I had to take a “deep dive” into the various coverages and forms of insurance policies offered in the State of Florida. This experience has proven invaluable in my current law practice, as I frequently need to review and analyze various coverage provisions of my clients’ insurance policies.
In 2015, I joined one of the largest property restoration contractors in the country as General Manager for their Central Florida office located in Orlando, Florida. In that role, I observed first hand what a property owner goes through when rebuilding their property after a major loss. To fast-track my experience level in property restoration, the company sent me on a formal two-week intensive course to learn how to investigate and adjust residential property damage claims. In addition, I completed formal training in Xactanalysis and Xactimate, the insurance industry standard software for estimating the amount of damage in property damage insurance claims. These are the same courses that insurance adjusters take when learning how to investigate and adjust your claims.
In 2016, I took the opportunity to return to full-time law practice and joined one of the largest insurance defense firms in Florida. While I enjoyed the people I worked with, I won’t pretend I enjoyed the work. I quickly learned that my way of thinking was not compatible with that of insurance adjusters. It was a bit like oil and water. On a positive note, I learned a great deal about how insurance companies investigate, adjust, and litigate claims. Like the other steps along the path to becoming Your Insurance Claim Lawyer, that experience has proven to be very beneficial by giving me clear insight into the insurance industry’s approach and motivations.
In late 2017, shortly after Hurricane Irma, I was blessed with the opportunity and privilege to work For the People at America’s Largest Injury Law Firm. In that role, my varied professional experiences came together to make me very effective at handling and resolving property damage insurance claims. Between January 1, 2018, and March 31, 2022, I represented clients in 906 litigated—and successfully resolved—insurance claims, where my staff and I recovered a total of $24,110,792.95 for our clients in denied and disputed insurance payments.
In May of 2022, I--along with my staff--established Roger A. Hatfield, PLLC, to be Your Insurance Claim Lawyer. My ongoing practice is focused on representing homeowners and consumers whose insurance claims have been wrongly denied or underpaid by their insurance company. Since May of 2022, my staff and I have recovered $14,218,566.80 for our clients in denied and disputed insurance payments.
